How to do keyword research for blog?

Here’s how.

The keyword research process is pretty much the same for any purpose.

You use tools like SEMrush or AdWords to find out what people are searching for on Google and Yahoo.

If you have a blog, there is a difference though.

Just like this blog, it is very likely that you have a particular topic of interest, that you blog about.

For example, say personal finance.

In which case, you are now interested in doing keyword research only for personal finance related keywords.

How do you do it?

Simple. Use Google AdWords.

In it, you’ll find an option by which you can limit the searches to a particular category.

Actually, SEMrush does it better.

When you use the “Keyword Magic” tool in SEMrush, you’ll notice that there is a way to filter keywords by “theme”.

For example, if you are keyword researching on “Apples”, you’ll notice that on the left hand side, there are “themes” like “watch”, “vinegar” etc.

Clicking on a theme will only show you results based on that filter. See below image for example.

Here's how to do keyword research for blog.

As you can see, when you do keyword research for your blog, make sure the right theme is chosen from the filter.

For example, if your blog’s chosen theme is “tech”, then choose “iphone”, “watch” etc as filters so you get keyword research for the tech company Apple.

If your blog is a food blog, then you might want to choose “vinegar” and “fruit” as the filters.

Other than this, the keyword research process for a blog is pretty much the same.

You enter a seed keyword, and you get everything from related keywords, questions, search volume etc.

All the best.

šŸ˜ I use this WordPress theme for all my blogs. You’ll love it.āœŒļø

Been blogging since 2005 and I absolutely love it. Having worked for small and big startups in Silicon Valley, helping them market stuff online, from cars to software, I quit my corporate job and took to blogging as a profession. I share everything I learn about blogging and online marketing here on the blog. Everything from my successes to failures and everything in between, so you can learn too. I hope it is useful.
